SOCIAL entrepreneurship
"Sending the elevator back down" is a phrase used often by Jackie Rens, the Head of Department at the Oakfields College Faculty of Dance and Musical Theatre.
If sending the elevator back down means making it easier to raise someone else up, then VRT is one hundred percent on board. We care about our role in building a strong, inclusive creative sector because we have first-hand knowledge of the associated benefits that theatre offers.
Let's face the facts, not every child who participates in a school play will end up being a professional actor. But every learner who participates in theatre at school level will learn
-
Teamwork
-
How to speak in front of peers
-
Build self-confidence
-
Respect your working environment
-
Empathy

Theatre is not just about putting on entertainment. It teaches those who partake about team work, dedication, growing in confidence, growing in skill, having compassion and seeing the other side of every story. The theatre promotes inclusivity, demands understanding and patience and, when you get it right, is a most rewarding and satisfying process to be part of.

WE BELIEVE THAT THEATRE CAN HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON INDIVIDUALS, ON COMMUNITIES AND THE WORLD.
As a social entrepreneur, we love to collaborate with partners locally and from across the globe. We partner with educational institutions and NPO's/NGO's, we share knowledge and create platforms for young talent, both on and offstage.
We add value, we entertain, we provoke thought, we think out-of-the-box, we create employment, we develop young audiences, we educate and we believe that the arts enriches the lives of those who partake in it.
We are guided by our values of inclusiveness, honesty, accountability, quality and sustainability in a positive and collaborative atmosphere that is conducive to producing excellent, inspiring creative work.
