After a wildly successful debut season, VR Theatrical’s The Jungle Book is back by huge demand! This bold and imaginative stage adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s timeless tale returns to the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino for a limited season from 12 February to 1 March 2026.

“This production of The Jungle Book is an exciting, modern musical adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale. It keeps the heart of the original story but distances itself from the well-known Disney version. Instead, we get an edgier, contemporary take that feels bold and refreshing, brought to life by a passionate cast and a creative production team.” – Dan Brocklebank

Audiences can expect a fully immersive theatrical experience that begins the moment they step into the venue. The foyer is transformed into a jungle wonderland, draped in vines and lush greenery, immediately transporting patrons into Mowgli’s world before the performance even begins. The bold, urban-inspired set and costume design merge with dynamic choreography and a pulsing original score to deliver a fresh, contemporary take on Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale.

The Jungle Book embraces a strikingly modern aesthetic - gritty, stylised, and refreshingly original - while remaining faithful to the heart of the story. Adapted and directed by Daniel Butcher-Geddes, with an original score by Wessel Odendaal, this 75-minute family-friendly show is designed to enchant audiences aged 4 and up. Set deep in the heart of the jungle, it follows Mowgli’s journey of self-discovery, friendship, and courage. Alongside iconic characters like Bagheera, Baloo, and the fearsome Shere Khan, Mowgli learns what it means to find his place in the world.

With its high production values, inventive storytelling, and a strong emotional core, The Jungle Book promises a family-friendly theatrical adventure that is as thoughtful as it is entertaining - a must-see for those looking to experience this well-loved tale in a bold new way.

Whether you missed it the first time or want to return for another adventure, do not miss this celebrated South African production that has captured hearts and imaginations.
